This lovely Old Station site is a great holiday destination for Railway Enthusiasts. As well as our own original railway features, relaid track and vintage carriages for restoration, we are ideally located for visits to both mainline and heritage railways.

Here on the park you can see the original Doldowlod railway signs; part of the platforms; the cutting; the siding and the track bed.
When the River Wye is low you can clearly see the old railway bridge footings.

We have DVD's showing the journey through Doldowlod from Brecon to Newtown. We also have two vintage carriages awaiting restoration/conversion which are currently on rail in what was the old siding.

Within a few miles of the park, you can walk the old railway bed through what is now the Gilfach nature reserve. The massive tunnel is now a bat sanctuary

The Heart Of Wales Line at Llandrindod Wells (8 miles from Doldowlod)
The Heart Of wales Line runs from Shrewsbury to Swansea through the most glorious Welsh countryside. You can take the train from the nearby Victorian spa town of llandrindod Wells. Don't miss the nice collection of railway memorabilia at the signal box museum there.
The Vale of Rheidol steam Railway (15 miles from Doldowlod)
Halfway across the mountain road from the Elan Valley near Rhayader to Aberystwyth (30 miles away on the West Wales coast) is the Vale of Rheidol steam Railway. The 12 mile rail route between Devils Bridge and Aberystwyth is a master class in engineering! This line has been in use for 110 years.

Look out for birds of prey such as red kites and buzzards soaring high above the valley floor and listen to the sound of the narrow gauge steam engine working hard on the climb into the hills. The journey takes 1 hour in each direction.
The Aberystwth Cliff Railway (31 miles from Doldowlod)

The Aberystwyth Electric Cliff Railway is the longest electric cliff railway in Britain. It climbs Constitution Hill from the northern end of the town's promenade. Trains run every few minutes. The summit reveals an amazing panorama which on a clear day extends as far as the Preseli Hills in Pembrokeshire to the south and the whole expanse of Cardigan Bay to the west. The mountains of Snowdonia to the North can also be seen.
The Brecon Mountain Railway (30 miles from Doldowlod)
Built to accomodate the Limestone industry the Brecon mountain railway winds through villages past the highest peak in South Wales. You will also see the vast, 85 year old Reservoir Dam and the 13th century ruins of Morlais Castle .
Further afield but well worth a visit (1 hr and 20 minutes drive from Doldowlod through spectacular scenery) is the Llangollen Railway. This is the only standard gauge heritage railway in North Wales. It islocated beside the historic Dee Bridge (built in 1345) in the centre of Llangollen town. Take a relaxing 10 miles trip hauled by steam or heritage diesel through the stunning Dee Valley to the lovely town of Corwen. .
